MONTHLY MEOW
FEBRUARY, 2012
Felines and Friends is now happily in their new store, holding adoptions every Sunday from 2 to 6. VIP, Very Important Pet (on Robertson), had been wonderful to our group; and we are thrilled to be a part of their family. Each week, our adoptions are getting more attention - people are starting to realize we are there and are beginning to visit regularly. It's fun to see our old friends! We would love for you to visit whenever you can. This week has been a banner week! We've actually adopted out three - possibly four -- cats! Both DJ and Guido were adopted by a wonderful woman who loves them to death already. Tiger Lily (one of the companions to Peggy and Laser) has just been adopted -- she was recently at our veterinarian's office, Petville, on Venice Boulevard. She is going to a lovely couple who recently lost their 20 year old kitty. Once she settles in, they are planning on getting her a kitten! And, Samantha, who we had had for quite some time, may be going to a fantastic home in West Hollywood! She is so excited!
October, 2011
Well, we are finally getting back on track and will be updating our Monthly Meow on a regular basis!
October, 2011:
We got a call early one morning from VIP, saying that a tiny kitten had been abandoned at their front door! One of our volunteers picked her up and is now fostering the 9 oz. beauty. She is a silver classic tabby, with gorgeous black swirls on her sides – one of the swirls is in the shape of a heart! She has been named “Marble” and is about 4 weeks old. Her foster mom has done a remarkable job with her and we look forward to her first public appearance at adoptions!
Chauncy has been with his new family in Winslow, Arizona, now for a couple of days. He took the 9 hour drive well – and is now getting acquainted with his two new doggie brothers. His mom says they are doing fine, but the dogs are showing a little too much interest in Chauncy – for his taste! His family reports that he “is even more wonderful than we could have ever imagined!”
September, 2011:
After 12 years at Petco, Felines & Friends has moved to a new adoption location – VIP, Very Important Pet, 331 N. Robertson in Beverly Hills. It is a beautiful location, with wonderful people. The varieties of food are amazing and they sell no pets whatsoever! It was not actually Felines & Friends’ decision to move (although we are quite happy). Petco acquired a new store manager – something that happens several times a year – and their new manager decided she did not wish to have Felines & Friends as an adoption partner. No reason was given. Petco Corporate also felt no obligation or loyalty for an organization that had been with them, through rain and shine, Sunday after Sunday, for more than 12 years. It was just “Good-Bye!” Needless to say, we have lost a great deal of respect for the Petco chain! It takes a long time and hard work to build a reputation and acquire a wonderful clientele. We do miss all our “regulars”! Please come to visit us in our new location.
This past week, we were able to rescue two beautiful kitties from the East Valley Shelter. A mother, Calico, about 2 years old (Precious Darla) and one of her sons (her other two kittens had been adopted), a 7 month old tuxedo named Alfalfa. Both these cats have the most loving personalities. Darla grabs your hand and licks your fingers, while Alfalfa loves everyone he meets – he immediately bumped noses with the cats and dogs in his foster family upon their first meeting!
One of our little ones, Chauncey, is going to his new home this weekend – in Winslow, Arizona! We think it is the farthest adoption we have done to date. His new parents are driving into L.A. to pick him up. We have seen photos of their home and their two rescue dogs, and we are having someone from a local adoption group visit the home for us. This couple had a polydactyl black cat that they adored and then had a Snowshoe that was just the most amazing guy! When they saw Chauncey’s photo on our website and realized that he was a polydactyl Snowshoe, they fell in love immediately. Ashley, one of our volunteers, has had many lengthy conversations with Chauncey’s prospective parents and we are positive that this will be a wonderful place for our Chauncey! We are very excited for him!
That’s all the news for now. Hope to see you all at VIP!
